‘For transportation, we just want to be taken care of’
Diemmax, a builder of marine engines, uses transport broker Gelder Logistics to ship these engines. “France, Sweden, and many other places in the world,” says Gert van den Brink of the company in Kootwijkerbroek.
“These are engines for pleasure boats of about 8 to 25 meters long. Such an engine is transported on a pallet and then has to be delivered to a dealer or boat builder. Transport broker Gelder Logistics takes care of all our transport. This is currently around 30 engines per year, but due to the growth of our company, this will only increase.”
Transport broker Gelder Logistics provides in the entire process
Why use a transport broker? “To be taken care of, that’s what we want for transportation. At Gelder Logistics, we only have to indicate where a transport needs to go and Sebastian does the rest. We often get options that we can let our customer choose from: if he wants the engine very quickly, he can choose air freight. If he is not in a hurry, sea freight is a good, cheaper option. Ideal for us, because we don’t have to do any work here.” It is also very convenient for us that Gelder Logistics organizes the entire process. After an engine is unloaded at a port or airport, someone has to make sure that it actually reaches our customer. Gelder even arranges that.”
Transport broker for customized transportation
In the past, the company in Kootwijkerbroek organized the transportation to customers themselves with carriers. “That didn’t work so well outside of Europe. Engines sometimes even stayed in a port. Moreover, it was a lot of work to find out the different options and arrange customs documents.” The cooperation with the transport broker is going well. “The interaction with Gelder Logistics is pleasant, I can definitely recommend it to other companies. One phone call or email is enough, Sebastian immediately rolls up his sleeves and arranges transportation to suit your needs. That’s a mentality we like.”
